Do you feed your animals a raw diet?
Recently, two children in Minnesota became sick with Salmonella after feeding their pets Raws for Paws raw ground turkey pet food. This food was recalled on February 5th, 2018 by the manufacturer.
One of the children developed a complication called osteomyelitis— a bone infection—and required hospitalization.
If you have purchased this food, please dispose of it properly. Be sure to wash pet dishes and floors, and the area around where your pet eats should be cleaned and disinfected.
Due to the fact that salmonella bacteria can survive for weeks on surfaces in the home, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does not recommend feeding your pets raw diets. Handling raw pet foods can make you or your pets sick. In addition, feeding raw diets to your parents may make them carriers of infections such as Salmonella.
