Radagast Pet Food, Inc. of Portland, Oregan has a voluntary recall out on all varieties of Rad Cat Raw Diets with Best By dates of 10/19/18 through 12/3/19. These foods are potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. This can cause illness in humans exposed to the diet during preparation to feed pets, including “some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever.”
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and possibly fatal infection in the animals consuming the pet food as well. Animals can show short-term symptoms like the following: ” vomiting, diarrhea, fever, muscular or respiratory signs and anorexia.” These animals can also shed Listeria monocytogenes through their feces, which they can get on their coat and paws and thus contaminate the household.
