Melisa Loomis

Melisa is Veremedy’s most experienced and comedic veterinary technician. Melisa earned her associate’s degree in applied science of veterinary technology from Vermont Technical College in the 1990s. After making her way to the Upper Valley from sunny California, Melisa has been helping to care for dogs and cats for many years. Melisa lives with her husband and their daughter. She also has a challenging young German Shepherd Dog, a couple of sweet Chihuahuas and a few cats to round out her home. Melisa enjoys outdoor activities and spends her free time running, hiking, biking or snowshoeing. At work, Melisa most enjoys being a conscientious anesthetist, the thrills of unexpected emergencies, the joys of young animals and the challenge of animal behavior.

Hanna Dubreuil

Hanna joined the Veremedy team in 2009 after graduating with an associate’s degree in applied science of veterinary technology from Vermont Technical College. She particularly enjoys reading labs and assisting with surgery. At home she spends time with her dog, Marlowe, her cat, Ed and tarantula, Hairy. She also enjoys knitting and kayaking.

Katie Ranney

Katie, like the other veterinary technicians at Veremedy, received her associate’s degree in applied science of veterinary technology from Vermont Technical College. After previous career explorations, Katie found herself most happy helping animals here at Veremedy. Katie lives with her husband Adam, their son Hudson, and their sometimes-cantankerous wonder cat, Lucy. In her spare time, Katie is a fashion guru who can be seen with new and interesting handbags regularly. As the Lab Rat or Queen of the Lab, Katie enjoys her time peering into the microscope and running blood work. We rely on Katie to keep all of the sophisticated analyzers in the lab working properly.

Chelsea Cardente

Chelsea earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from Mount Ida College in 2012. She grew up in Hartland and after spending four years just outside of Boston while attending college, she decided Hartland is where she belongs. Chelsea most enjoys her time with us assisting in surgery and general patient care. At home she is kept busy with two horses, a rabbit, and her two young cats Yamaha and Suzuki. In her spare time she likes to spend time with her family’s two energetic retrievers and just being outdoors.

Karen McCullough

Karen joined the Veremedy team in early 2019. After years of working in theater and events production around the country, Karen returned home to Vermont with a desire to pursue her interest and devotion to animals.  As Veremedy’s newest veterinary assistant, Karen is living out her dream of working with animals, with a special heart for those who are sick or nearing end of life.  Karen lives in South Royalton with her beloved cat Gumbo.  When she isn’t working, Karen loves being outside, watching movies, and hanging out with her niece and nephews.

Shina Butterfield

Hi, my name is Shina and I received my Bachelors in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology from the University of Vermont in 2016. I have always had a passion for the outdoors and working with animals. After working in the environmental field for a couple years I realized my passion was more with helping animals, so I decided to enroll in technician school at Miami Dade College, where I graduated In 2020. My fiancé, Luke and I lived in Miami for 3 years, but we were very excited to come back home to beautiful Vermont and further our careers. We live in the Quechee area with our dog Occhi and cat Ally, where we enjoy hiking, golfing, and tennis (weather permitting). I especially enjoy assisting in surgery, laboratory work, and patient care.
